Weero Koster has practiced law for over 30 years. He focuses on projects (including the financing of projects), contracts, business combinations and M&A transactions. Acknowledged as one of the leading energy lawyers in the Netherlands by both Chambers Global and the Legal 500 EMEA.

Weero supports renewable and conventional power generation energy projects and activities, mergers, acquisitions and privatizations in the energy industry, and commercial contracting. He also provides regulatory advice and assistance in dispute resolution for most major domestic and international players as well as local and central government and NGOs.

Examples of Experience

  • Lead counsel for Eurus Energy in the acquisition of a majority stake in a portfolio of existent onshore wind farm projects in the Netherlands with a total capacity of 75,6 MW and in Finland with a total capacity of 25 MW;
  • Lead counsel for the developers/operators of the onshore wind farm projects NOP Agrowind consisting of 26 wind turbines with a joint capacity of around 195 MW that employs the latest technology with 7,5 MW Enercon wind turbines and which financing is supported by European Investment Bank.
  • Lead counsel for the developers/operators of the Westermeerwind project, the Netherlands' largest near shore wind farm, consisting of 48 SWT-3.0-108 Siemens wind turbines, designed to generate 144 MW of wind power.
  • Lead counsel for Triodos Bank and Triodos Groenfonds in relation to the project financing of  the Bouwdokken project, a wind farm developed in the municipality of Veerle, Zeeland that will provide for 33.6 MW of wind power.
  • Acted for the investors on the construction of the initial Siemens (test) wind turbines as part of the Formosa offshore wind farm project in Taiwan with an aggregate capacity of 270 MW.
  • Lead counsel for an investor and wind power developer in the acquisition of a majority stake in a portfolio of existent onshore wind farm projects in the Netherlands with a total capacity of 107 MW and in Finland with a total capacity of 25 MW;
  • Lead counsel for the construction, financing and acquisition of numerous Caribbean renewable projects, including the Playa Kanoa wind project on Curacao, the Vader Piet wind project on Aruba and the EcoPower wind/bio-diesel project on Bonaire, Dutch Antilles; and
  • Lenders' lead counsel on the Dutch law aspects of the construction, financing and operation of two onshore wind farms in the western part of Finland. This project combines all elements of project documentation, export credit financing and project financing, and follows a structure under the cover of an ECA insurance provided Atradius, the Dutch export credit agency.
